ALBANY, GA. --

One church brought together the community to get locals registered to vote.

The Beacon of Light International Church held a community ‘Day of Peace’ to get people interested in the changes in their community.

More than 10 people registered to vote throughout the day.

The Dougherty County Sheriff's Office and the Albany Fire Department came out to address the crowd but organizers say it takes more than city leaders to take the community forward.

“I just want the community to know that the officials of the community. They cannot do the job alone. It has to be a community effort and so that's what we've done here today we wanted to bring the community together,” Bishop Helen Mackey, Pastor of Beacon of Light International Church.
