District-2 Commissioner, Betty Johnson, announces she will step-down.
 / Matt Prichard
ALBANY, GA -- Lee County District-2 Commissioner, Betty Johnson announced Tuesday that she plans to step-down after the November elections.
Over the last decade, Johnson has fought for equal wages for Lee County employees and was finally making headway in the last year as the County hired the Mercer Group to run a financial study of employee wages.
However Johnson feels that several changes should be made to the Mercer Groups findings, which would cause the group to not sign off on the survey. Only Vice-Chairman Rick Muggridge stood with Johnson on the issue, causing the remainder of the board to trust the Mercer Group survey without alteration.
Johnson was visibly emotional about this decision and announced shortly after that she will not be running for District-2 Commissioner in November, leaving board members and the community in shock.
Johnson stated that she had, "let her community down" based on the board's decision to move forward with the Mercer Group study.
