ALBANY, GA -- The Dougherty County Commission Finance Committee received a look at the budget for the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office and Jail.

This budget comprises 36% of the total general fund budget for Dougherty County and is the county's largest.

Officials say they trying to find ways to save including switching over to an automated phone system and trying to reduce the recidivism rate.

The largest costs to the jail besides worker salaries is the $1.3 million spent inmate healthcare.

The finance committee said that sheriff's officials were doing a good job staying on top of the budget.
