ALBANY, GA. --

In our Facebook story of the day, people wanted to know when to get a flu shot so it'll be most effective.

Southwest Georgia Public Health Departments will start offering flu vaccines next week.

Officials say since flu vaccines are good for an entire year, anytime they are being offered is a good time to get one.

“The best time to take the flu vaccine is when the flu vaccine becomes available because the vaccines are manufactured and they will last the whole time throughout the flu season. The flu season usually peaks around February or March and if you get the flu vaccine right now you will still be protected during the peak of the flu season,” says Suzette Profit, Southwest Georgia Public Health Immunization Coordinator.

Public health officials are encouraging everyone to get a flu shot to protect themselves and those around them as well.
