ALBANY,GA --
Alice Coachman, the woman from Albany who was the first African American and the only woman to win a gold medal in the 1948 Olympic Games in London, will have her story featured in this week's Time Magazine and in a New York Times article running now through Tuesday.

She's also the center of a children's book, Queen of the Track, by author Heather Lang.

The book traces the athlete's ascent from running and jumping barefoot in the fields of Georgia to accepting the gold medal from the King of England atop the center podium at Wembley Stadium.

The Time issue featuring Coachman hit newsstands this past Friday July 20.

The New York Times story went online Sunday at nytimes.com/sports.

And in print, the feature will run three days:  Sunday, July 22 through Tuesday, July 24.
