ALBANY, GA. --

For those who will soon have to head to the Department of Driver Services for a license renewal, you're going to need additional identification.

To get a driver’s license or I.D. card people now have to bring least one original or certified document to prove their identity and one source to prove your social security number. An example of this is an original birth certificate and a social security card.

People will also need two documents to prove their current residential address.

These changes have been causing some headaches, but Georgia State Representative Gerald Greene says although it may be a hassle, drivers will only have to provide this information once.

“There's a whole lot to prove who you really are but this is a one time deal. You will have already established the proof that you are who you are and that you live a such and such address,” says Gerald Greene, Georgia State Representative.

He says many people are under the assumption that the Georgia General Assembly recently passed the measure to bring multiple proofs of identity, but the idea surfaced more than a decade ago.

The Real I.D. Act was passed back in 2005 as a part of Homeland Security after the World Trade Center attacks in 2001.
