ALBANY, GA -- Southwest Georgia Residents gathered downtown Wednesday to celebrate the 4th of July in style.

However most Southwest Georgians don't realize the amount of time and effort that goes into this production each year. Special Events Coordinator for Parks and Recreation, Kristin Caso, says this event is something they work on year round.

"People think that it might just take us a few weeks to organize this, we generally start planning in February. It takes about 6 months to plan the entire event," said Caso.

The most important goal of the event though is to allow the public a chance to have fun in a safe and friendly environment.

"Very excited, we're going to come out later and watch the fireworks, and it's going to be a very exciting and pumping show," said local resident, Jacquez Jackson.

People from all over Southwest Georgia came out to enjoy some food, fun, and fireworks Wednesday and are planning for many more successful years here in Albany.
