Dr. Richard Green is Albany State University’s Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He officially began duties at the start of the 2012-2013 academic year.
Most recently, Green was the Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi and Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting President at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. He served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At both institutions, he was instrumental in helping to develop continuing education and lifelong education programs. His teaching and administrative experience at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky and the University of Massachusetts will be of considerable assistance in program development initiatives at ASU.
Additional leadership positions include the top job as president at Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Kentucky and Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. He was responsible for the development of master’s and doctoral degree programs as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Graduate Studies at Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The graduate of Harvard University Institute for Educational Management earned a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry at the University of Louisville in Kentucky; the M.S. in physical chemistry at North Dakota State University in Fargo; and the B.A. in chemistry at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
He succeeds Dr. Abiodun Ojemakinde who is returning to the College of Business as Professor of Business after serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs for five years. Ojemakinde also served as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Reporting directly to the President, Green will serve as the university’s Chief Academic Officer and as the senior member of the President’s cabinet. As the initial, interim appointee to the new position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, he acts on behalf of the President in his absence.
The new ASU administrator is married to Dr. Dorothy Green. The couple has two adult children and three grandchildren.
