Albany Native, Henroy L. Jackson, was one of 400 Montford Point Marines who receive the Congressional Gold medal for their services. The ceremony was held in Washington DC and honored some of the nation’s first black marines. Jackson joined the Marine Corps in 1946, and was sent to the segregated boot camp known as Montford Point. For Jackson this award is something to be proud of, "This award means quite a bit because of the hardship we endured during that period. This is something to make us feel good apparently, you know make us feel good that we did get something out of it."After leaving the Marine, Jackson went back to high school, and then joined the Air Force.
