ALBANY, GA. --

After years of working to find a new site for the Albany Multimodal Transportation facility, the Albany Board of City Commissioners has struck down a resolution to continue the negotiation process.

After the vote Ward 3 Commissioner Christopher Pike recommended that the mayor reach out to District 2 Congressional leader Sanford Bishop for help on the issue.

Also during Tuesday night’s meeting, officials moved forward with approving the 2012-2013 fiscal budget.

Commissioner John Howard was the only one on the board to vote no. He stated that this was the first time in 18 years that he voted against a proposed budget.

The budget is set at $111,918,000.

During the meeting two city entities approached the board about funding for next year.

While the $50,000 dollars for the Albany Civil Rights Institute was approved, the issue was tabled for the Riverquarium.

“Everybody knows that we're in challenging situations and so we just have to make decisions on what's going to best benefit the taxpayers and the constituents and the basic necessities that we're supposed to provide as a government,” says Chris Pike, Albany Ward 3 Commissioner.

Board members are asking that officials with the Riverquarium bring more information to show how they will use the $250,000 dollars they're requesting.
