DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA --
A new piece of legislation is requiring all metal recycling centers to register with the sheriff's office every year in order to combat metal theft.

Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul says each of the three centers in Albany will have to pay a $200 fee for that registration.

“And my request to the board of commissioners was to forward $100 of that to the Georgia Sheriff's Association to help offset the cost of the database that has not yet been set up with the Secretary of State,” says Sheriff Kevin Sproul.

The Dougherty County Commission will consider the request at their next work session.
