ALBANY, GA --
Youth Becoming Healthy(YBH) is a fitness and nutrition education program for over weight children. YBH runs a 4-6 week summer wellness camp for kids that are obese or overweight.

The Center of Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1 in 3 American kids are ether overweight or obese. This puts them at a higher risk for a cardiovascular disease .

Pamela Jackson says she created YBH after these condition cause tragedy to strike her family, "YBH was started in February of 2004, following the death of my brother Bernard. He died from being overweight, unhealthy, had a lot of medical issues due to his weight. So I started this program in his memory..."

YBH is wrapping up its 4th annual summer camp, where kids partake in a variety of non traditional forms of exercise.

Campers enjoy activities such as, karate, dance, and Zumba, all of which are aimed to making them more active.

One of the highlights of the camp is when NFL wide receiver, and Albany native, Ricardo Lockette stopped by with this message for the kids, "Never give up, complete your dreams no matter what. I know a lot of times a lot of bumps come in the road of success, but it takes a strong person and a different types of person, a different motivated type of person to overcome the obstacles and become the best you can."

In order to participate in the camp, kids must be referred by their doctor.
