ALBANY, GA --
An Albany eyesore that's been the subject of debate for years is finally in the process of coming down.

The city of Albany and Oxford Construction began the demolition project for the dilapidated Heritage House Thursday.

Construction crews have started taking down rooms in the rear of the structure and also began preliminary site preparations for the removal of hazardous material.

Those working on site wore gas masks just in case harmful fumes are released during deconstruction.

The cost of demolition is estimated at around one million dollars and officials hope to be done by October.
