Carline Thompson voices her fear of pending Phoebe license

ALBANY, GA --
The Hospital Authority Board invited the public to meet at the Government Center Thursday afternoon to voice their opinions on the possible leasing of Phoebe North, formerly known as Palmyra Medical Center.
Residents packed the room and stressed that they believe Phoebe will become a monopoly if they eliminate the competition and fear hospital fees will skyrocket.
Phoebe Putney Health System CEO, Joel Wernick, says the acquisition of Palmyra is required to continue the Hospital Authority Board's growth strategy so patients do not have to leave this corner of the state to get lifesaving medical treatment.
Some attendees were hopeful that an agreement can be reached.
"Some reconsiderations and go back and reanalyze a few things to see if this will be good for Dougherty County," said Robert Glover, a Cardiologist who is licensed to work at both hospitals.
Other residents believe this will not change the outcome and the lease will go through no matter what.
