New state holiday honors Phillip Phillips

LEESBURG,GA --
Saturday, Phillip Phillips made his big hometown debut since beginning his American Idol journey--and everyone wanted to express their support of him!

State House Representative Ed Rynders of Leesburg announced Saturday as Phillip Phillips day in the entire state of Georgia.

Meanwhile Congressman Sanford Bishop of Albany presented him with a proclamation.

“This is probably the biggest thing that's happened to southwest Georgia in a long, long time and I’m just greatly excited for the exposure, all of these people who have come out to welcome home a favorite son,” says Bishop.

Leesburg mayor Jim Quinn also presented Phillips with a key to the city.
