ALBANY, GA. --
In the Facebook story of the day people wanted to know if the Dougherty County Jail has teen intervention programs similar to Scared Straight. The answer is yes.
Officials with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office say their program for teenagers makes a difference.
During February the program had 25 teen interventions.
Deputies allow parents to bring a troubled teen into the facility for mentorship.
If that doesn't work, the teen is allowed to spend some time behind bars.
“When they're in that holding facility they may be exposed to other inmates and other individuals that are incarcerated and are awaiting trial or what have you. So they have that exposure of being scared straight because they don't know what's going to happen once they walk up those stairs,” says Lieutenant Terron Hayes with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.
Hayes says he hasn't had any teens come back after a night in jail.
