ALBANY, GA. --
We may be in for a hot summer but Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority (ADICA)  officials are working to make sure there's plenty of entertainment to keep your mind off of the heat.

In Wednesday’s meeting the board went over the ‘Downtown Scavenger Dash’ on May 5th and the ‘Flint Fest’ in October.

Another event set to bring a boost to our local economy is the 'Pen Stroke Poetry Festival'.

Poets from all over the nation are set to participate in the May event.

Organizers say the contest will bring in revenue and help students.

“We really want to focus on literacy and the way we're going to do that is we're working with the school district to run a poetry contest through the schools. It's called the Pen Stroke Poetry Contest and it's for youths ages 14 to 18,” says Tannur Ali, organizer for the Pen Stroke Poetry Festival.

Ali approached the Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority for funds to support the event. She says it's going to be a benefit to the city and residents.

Officials will be working with Ali during the upcoming weeks to see if they can provide the requested $2,000 for the festival.

Any students interested in the poetry contest must submit their work by April 23rd.  Applications can be located at local schools.

There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize for winners.
