LEE COUNTY, GA --
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office introduced a new member of their team today who's ready to fight the war on drugs.

Sadie is a 3-year-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever that's been trained to detect up to six different drugs. And she's now a full time member of the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Captain Keith Houston of the Lee County Sheriff's Office said "the K-9 handler is with him 24 hours a day 7 days a week. When the officer is off duty, he will take the K-9 animal home with him."

And Sadie comes to Lee County at no expense to tax payers.

This dog is donated from Jesse Smith, who is a trainer. He's trained dogs for 14 years and he's done a great job said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

Authorities say Sadie is going to give them an advantage when it comes to drug traffickers.

Sadie won't just be a crime fighter on the highways, she'll also help kids learn about drugs in the classroom. "Talking to the kids and educating them on drugs and alcohol and bullying. This is another step in the right direction to get that out there and bring it to the kids so they can learn," said Sheriff Rachals.

Sheriff Rachals says he's looking forward to bringing another dog into their K-9 unit.
