ALBANY, GA -- The Dougherty County Rotary Club recognized outstanding young scholars for their writing Tuesday.

The club sponsored the essay contest to encourage students to understand what their core values are and how these values can be carried through life.

The top writers from Deerfield in grades nine through twelve shared their essays at the Rotary meeting after they were recognized.

Crisp Gatewood, Dougherty County Rotary President, says "we're a service organization and we believe that literacy and things like this are key for all the schools in this area and we hope to grow it."

Next year, the Dougherty County Rotary Club plans to reach out to other local school systems.
