ALBANY, GA --
Former Atlanta Hawks star Dominique Wilkins made a trip to Albany to advise the community to get a jump on diabetes.

The Hall of Famer was first diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2000.

Since then, he has been an active member in the Diabetes community in hopes of educating and raising awareness about the illness.

During a Phoebe Lunch and Learn seminar, he answered questions from the public about the best ways to manage their health.

Wilkins says "I think the main message is that this disease is very manageable if you're willing to take three steps diet, exercise and education it's that simple. I think that's the biggest message you can give anybody and I think the second part of that is everybody should be getting screened."

He currently serves as the Hawk's Vice President of Basketball, a position he's held for the past five years.
