ALBANY, GA -- The city is being given $600,000 to perform an archeological study that's been mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.

It would come out of the stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

They're looking at the three acre plot of land that is currently a parking lot behind the Judicial Building and the fire department along Roosevelt Avenue.

The site was meant for a multi modal transportation center commissioners had been considering for the past several years.

There is concern, however that there are prehistoric artifacts relating to the Creek Indians under the ground.

Commissioner Chris Pike expressed concern over whether or not property owners and other folks in Albany still want the new transportation center.

Commissioners will discuss it further at their night meeting February 28th.
