ALBANY, GEORGIA -- City commissioners received good news about SPLOST VI at Tuesday's meeting.

The Special Local Option Sales Tax has garnered $8.4 million so far since beginning in 2011.

Engineering Director Bruce Maples says that's a sign Albany's economy is recovering.

"Actually revenues that we've collected have been a little bit higher that we saw when we were doing SPLOST V after the economic downturn. We're actually seeing the revenues come back up, so that's a nice surprise," says Maples.

SPLOST VI funds have been spent so far on security cameras for the Albany Dougherty Drug Unit, sidewalk improvements and new computer equipment for police cars.
