DOUGLAS, GA -- Coffee County High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and a local film maker are taking a stand against bullying.

The group rallied at the Douglas City Hall Monday afternoon to declare February 6th as Coffee County Anti-Bullying day.

“We figured the best thing that we can do is set aside a day that's outside of the month of anti-bullying where we alone can celebrate or rather acknowledge and make awareness of anti-bullying,” said Filmmaker Sidney Bryant.

Bullying can come in many forms be that physical, verbal, or often times no contact at all.

“Cyber bullying would be one of the most important topics especially with Facebook and internet access,” said Coffee County High School FBLA President Tina Moya.

Moya says she saw the need for anti-bullying efforts within the community.

“Mothers of students that are in middle school especially high school have talked to us about their children wanting to commit suicide,” said Tina Moya.

And she wasn’t the only one who noticed the problem.

“I started hearing all of the stories of the kids here in my own home town wanting to take their life, kids that can't take the pressure anymore,” said Filmmaker Sidney Bryant.

In addition to submitting a resolution to Coffee County commissioners for anti-bullying awareness, Bryant along with the students produced a movie surrounding a young teen that uses cutting as a way to cope.

“Popularity Evil” is set to premiere at 6:00 p.m. February 11th at the Coffee County High School in Douglas, Georgia.

“What I want people to take away from this is that it's real. It affects kids everyday,” said Bryant.
