ALBANY, GA --
Patches of a recession: That’s the economic forecast economists with The University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business presented their economic forecast for Georgia in 2012.
UGA’s economists say unemployment will remain high this new year. They say since 2009 the national is on the plus side of job creation while Georgia has only managed to slow its job loss rate.
Robert Sumichrast, dean of the business college, says people have to think realistically with the economy, saying the Peach State will not see a rapid growth in jobs.
He says incentive programs for businesses to open and expand in Georgia will help strengthen the state’s economy.
“We can do some things to improve our tax code and the governor has proposed some things that I think are steps in the right direction but generally working with a lower rate and more focus on consumption and less on production and investment,” says Sumichrast.
Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission President Ted Clem says recent numbers show Albany’s job growth is nearly one percent. He says it may not a big jump but it is growth.
