Tony Bailey bought his first two orchids from Home Depot in 1999. He thought he was going to kill them but six months later they were blooming again and he was hooked. Today, he’s outgrown his original greenhouse and is taking care of about 650 plants.
He even has an orchid named after him, the Potinara Tony Marcus Bailey. His daughter named and registered it with the British Royal Horticultural Society. Anyone that breeds the two parent plants, must call it after Bailey.
Each time Bailey comes out to his greenhouses he says it’s a new experience. He compares it to an Easter egg hunt, never knowing exactly what he will find.
"Sometimes they'll bloom and almost be hidden from sight so I enjoy the blooms and the fragrances that I have out here,” said Tony Bailey, orchid grower.
Bailey has orchids from all around the world. Despite paying about $300.00 for one plant he says it’s just a hobby.
"When I built my first greenhouse I thought that would be the last but it filled up pretty quickly so I built another greenhouse,” said Bailey.
