ALBANY, GA. -- Warmer winter temperatures may be a detriment to the northern tourist season but here in southwest Georgia farmers are rejoicing.

Mild temperatures have helped local farmers retain the majority of their crops.

They say besides the drop in temperatures last week, this season has been kind, which may mean more produce for next summer and a drop in prices.

One farmer with Farmers Organic in Baker County says this year has been a complete turnaround from last winter.

“I lost the crop last year except for the broccoli. The other greens I had, were burned to the point that I could not sell them,” said Farmers Organic owner Chad Heard.

He says when temperatures get below 20 degrees; farmers are more likely to lose their crops.
