The student council of a Dougherty County school donate toiletries and toys to a family of four in need this holiday season

ALBANY, GA -- A family of four -- including two children ages three and nine -- received an early Christmas present Wednesday afternoon. The Dougherty International Education Middle School's Student Council donated toiletries and toys to a Strive 2 Thrive family.

The school has been collecting items for a week.

The family says they are so happy the students chose to adopt them.

"We wanted the family to have something for the holidays and we just wanted to be helpful to them," says Sabriyyah Pollock, the student council secretary.

The student council also helped Toys For Tots last week and is presenting canned goods to the Albany Rescue Mission on Thursday. Strive 2 Thrive is a new philanthropy for Dougherty International Education Middle School.

The school is an international baccalaureate school and, therefore, completes numerous community service projects during the year.
