City and county officials said thank you to some of the most effective crime fighters in Albany and Dougherty County.

They honored all 34 neighborhood watches Monday for encouraging and uniting the community in protecting their neighbors and reducing crime.

City commissioner Jon Howard challenged them all to appeal more to the younger generation--a sentiment echoed by Melvin George, head of the South Dougherty County Community League.

“Be examples for our young people, for them to be able to come up in nice communities, respect and love each other as young people and hopefully this will transcend into adulthood,” said George.

Each neighborhood watch was presented with a copy of a resolution honoring their watch.
