ALBANY, GA. -- Seven Albany firefighters have received the 'Medal of Valour' for executing outstanding performance in the line of duty.

During Tuesday’s Albany Board of Commissioners meeting fire officials also named Frank Flanigan as "firefighter of the year".

Officer Flannigan helped save a man during a life threatening situation.

“I couldn't have done it by myself. It's my whole crew here. They are the ones who did what I asked them,” says Albany Fire Department Firefighter Frank Flanigan.

The fire department also donated a $300,000 check to the city during the meeting.
