Representatives are invited to advocate for clemency for condemned inmate Marcus Ray Johnson who was sentenced to death for a murder conviction in 1998.

ALBANY, GA -- The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has invited representatives for condemned inmate Marcus Ray Johnson to meet with the Board on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. to advocate for clemency on his behalf. Johnson is scheduled to die by lethal injection Oct. 5, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia.

On April 5, 1998, in the Superior Court of Dougherty County, Georgia, Marcus Ray Johnson was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, rape and aggravated battery. He was sentenced to death on the murder conviction.

The Parole Board is the sole authority in Georgia for granting clemency to inmates. The Board may commute a death sentence to life without parole, to life or deny clemency.
