ALBANY, GA -- The Albany Police Department hosted a security seminar Saturday morning.

They held workshops and brought in alarm and safety companies to help business and homeowners protect against property crimes.

Officers say the past couple of months have been especially bad for air conditioner thefts.

So their starting a new program to help people protect their AC units.

They want people to spray paint the coils based on what side of town the live on; orange on the westside, white in central Albany, and yellow on the eastside.

“That way it helps us to identify at least what part of town the coil came from, because otherwise it's impossible to track where the coils actually came from,” said Albany Police detective Timothy Harvey.

They say now is a critical time to be vigilant, because the holiday months are coming up.
