ALBANY, GA (AP) -- The state pardons board's clemency rejection appears to leave Troy Davis with little chance of avoiding his execution date.
Defense attorney Jason Ewart says the pardons board was likely Davis' last option, but he didn't rule out filing another appeal.
Davis is scheduled to die by injection tomorrow for killing off-duty Savannah officer Mark MacPhail, who was shot while rushing to help a homeless man being attacked.
The NAACP says it's considering asking President Barack Obama to intervene. A spokesman for the Death Penalty Information Center says Obama can't grant Davis clemency but could potentially halt the execution by requesting a federal investigation.
The Rev. Al Sharpton plans to hold a vigil at the state prison in Jackson. He wants supporters to urge Chatham County prosecutors to block the execution.
