ALBANY, GA. -- The Albany Police Department has eight new officers to help keep city streets safe.

The academy graduates were sworn-in and pinned in a ceremony at the Law Enforcement Center on Monday afternoon.

Albany Police Chief John Proctor presented shields to each officer as he congratulated them on their success.

Although this isn't the end of the journey for the group, they're still happy to make the milestone.

“I'm just happy to be here and proud of everything that I learned.  I can't wait to get out and protect the community,” said Officer Lataevia Jackson.

The officers have to go through several more weeks of training before they're ready to hit the street full time.
