LOWNDES COUNTY, GA -- The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office arrested Ruth Bennett Lott, 85, for shooting her 56-year-old daughter in the head at their Howell Road home. Sheriff Chris Prine says she will be charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Sheriff Chris Prine says both Ruth Bennett Lott, 85, and her daughter were taken to the South Georgia Medical Center. He says the daughter was released but Lott is still at the hospital with a wound to the arm. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

Prine says an initial investigation reveals that Lott lives in the home with her daughter on Howell Road. He says Tuesday morning, the victim and the mother began arguing over family issues. After retrieving a gun, Prine says Lott shot at her daughter once, grazing her in the head.
