ALBANY, GA. -- Four cigarette companies have banded together in a suit against the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).
Starting no later than September 2012, the companies will be required to place graphic ads on cigarette packages as a warning to customers.
Dead bodies, diseased lungs and rotting teeth are among the images expected to appear on the labels.
Cigarette makers believe this decision is unconstitutional.
Albany smokers feel the new labels are a waste of time.
“They won't even look at it. I mean if they want a cigarette they're going to smoke,” said smoker Connie Dixon.
“I really don't think it's going to make a difference because people are going to do whatever they want to do, whether it's going to cause cancer or not,” said Michael Dixon.
The FDA believes this new measure will stop children from starting to smoke and give adult smokers incentive to quit.
