ALBANY, GA -- Freshmen students began moving into Hall 5, one of the two new residence halls on Aug. 6. The second new residence building, Hall 6, will house sophomore, junior and senior students. Together, nearly 600 students will call these new residence halls home during the academic year.

Hall 5 and Hall 6 aren’t the traditional dormitories. Along with the usual laundry rooms and study area, they also include wireless Internet connections, a demonstration kitchen, a dance room, a performance area and more. Hall 6 features a P.O.D. Express convenience store and a Pizza Hut Express.

Across campus the new Student Center was built to encompass the existing dining hall and replace the Reese Student Union, whose size was considerably less than what the growing student population at ASU requires.

The new Student Center includes offices for the ASU Office of Student Affairs, Student Activities and the Student Government Association. The new Student Center also houses the ASU Bookstore, the post office and a ballroom.

In addition to the traditional dining hall experience, ASU students can enjoy Chick-Fil-A and Einstein Bros. Bagels, both located on the lower level of the new Student Center.

While the new areas of the Student Center are complete, the former dining hall is set for a renovation. To make this possible, the dining hall is closed, and meals are temporarily being served in the James C. Reese Building (Student Union) during fall semester.

For more information about the new dining venues and about meal plan options, visit www.asudining.com.

ASU will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for all three new buildings at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26. The ceremony will begin at Hall 5 and Hall 6 before moving to the new Student Center. Parking for the event will be available at the HPER Building.

After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the new student center will be open for tours and sampling of food at Chick-Fil-A and Einstein Bros. Bagels.
