Hundreds of ASU students are getting settled in

ALBANY, GA -- Hundreds of Albany State University students are getting settled in. They’re freshmen starting college.

Saturday was freshman move-in day at ASU. Alexis Dodson brought a small army with her to get set up.

“I got like three brothers, two cousins, my stepdad, my mommy, my auntie, my uncle,” said Dodson. “Because they want to say goodbye. Plus I’ve got a lot of stuff too.”

As much as the day is about the students getting ready to start college it's also a pretty big and nervous day for parents.

“It's actually a bittersweet moment. I'm kind of like worried and then hopefully everything will go the right way as far as her coming down here and getting her education that she needs,” said Chris Granville, Alexis’ mother.

She's one of about 1,000 seemingly confident freshmen who moved into their dormitories Saturday.

“It’s exciting its fun. I get to meet new people. I get to start my life. I'm just ecstatic,” said freshman Gustavis Martin.

This freshmen class is a class of firsts, because this residence hall is brand new and the students moving in today are going to be its first tenants.

“We have lounge spaces, we have study halls. We have gaming rooms, we have a movie theatre, we have a demonstration kitchen, we have a small black box performing arts area and a dance studio,” said Albany State Housing director Bonisha Porter.

First day of class is August 15.
