A 16-year-old football player dies at football camp
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida is investigating the death of a Fitzgerald teenager.
Authorities say after a morning football practice 16-year-old Donteria “DJ” Searcy was found unresponsive in his cabin around 11 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Investigators say Searcy was transported to the Lake City Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office has sent grief counselors to the camp at O’Leno State Park to assist the team with their loss.
No foul play is suspected and an autopsy will performed to determine the exact cause of death.
