DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- You don't need Mike Morrison to tell you, but it’s hot. Now A lot of people are taking to the water during these summer months.

But officials with Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources say they are busting a lot of people for not following boating laws. They talked to members at the Dougherty County Rotary Club Tuesday.

Drinking while boating has been a constant problem, and the consequences for getting caught can be just as severe as drinking while driving.

“Usually a five or $600 dollar fine is what you are looking at. You could serve up to a year in jail. Your boating privileges in the state of Georgia are suspended for a minimum period of one year and then of course like always you can do probation or community service,” said Ben Roberts of DNR.
