ALBANY, GA -- Educators from across Southwest Georgia will gather at Albany State University on Friday, July 15, for the Educators’ Summit sponsored by the ASU College of Education.

The summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 pm. in the ACAD Auditorium. The event is a professional development opportunity for school administrators and educators in reading, mathematics and science. The goal of the summit is to deepen the educators' content knowledge and expand their repertoire of appropriate and effective instructional strategies in these critical areas.

The Educators’ Summit is supported in part by a teacher quality grant, which is funded by the Board of Regents from the U.S. Department of Education as part of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Participants will collaborate with renowned educators and professionals to acquire knowledge and resources to complement their operations.  Educators will learn how to be better prepared to plan and implement instruction and receive a tool kit for implementing their skills.  Administrators who participate will learn how to be better equipped for working with innovative teachers who transform the educational experiences of students in their school.

Keynote speakers for the Educators’ Summit include Dr. Virginia Tickles, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Dr. Leon Caldwell, director of the National Think Tank for African American Progress at the Center for Research and Policy. Other presenters are Dr. Gayle Herrington, Columbus State University; star teachers from area school districts; and Albany State University faculty in reading, math, science, and technology.
