ALBANY, GA -- For FOX 31's Facebook story of the day viewers wanted to know what protocol police take when they're called out to a fireworks accident.

Chief James Carswell for the Albany Fire Department said people should realize that certain types of fireworks are illegal in Georgia.

He said people can have sparklers and devices that shoot off of the ground, but anything that makes a bang is prohibited.

That means no bottle rockets or anything that explodes.

If an accident occurs police will be dispatched to the area.

“They will dispatch a police officer to the location and see if they can determine who actually is shooting off the illegal fireworks and if they catch them they will make a case against them,” said Albany Fire Chief James Carswell.

Chief Carswell said possessing and even transporting illegal fireworks is a crime punishable by up to $1,000 dollars a day.
