LEE COUNTY, GA -- An unusual find turned up in the Kinchafoonee Creek.

Last week officials were walking along the creek and found a sunken boat. It had apparently been there for 12 years but was finally spotted because of low water levels.

Today a group of volunteer firefighters and law enforcement officers came out to haul the boat away, but getting the boat out proved to be a difficult task.

“There was two holes in the bottom of the boat, which allowed sand to fill in the hole and the center of the hole was hollow. So that sand has set in there. So we had to dig and air bag it up so we can flip it and onto the pontoons. Once we got it on the pontoons we were able to float it out,” said Capt. Bobby Spencer of the Lee County Fire Department.

That boat has now been moved to the landfill in Lee County.

There is going to be another cleanup effort for the Kinchafoonee on July 16th and they are looking for people to sign up.
