Selected to participate in the Third National Leadership Institute
Dr. Joshua W. Murfree, Jr. superintendent of the Dougherty County School System
ALBANY, GA -- Dr. Joshua W. Murfree, Jr. superintendent of the Dougherty County School System, is one of only seventy-four African American superintendents selected to participate in the Third National Leadership Institute sponsored by the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE). The institute will be held in Charleston, South Carolina, June 23-25, 2011.
The alliance reaches out to 13,000 African American educators throughout the United States and the Caribbean. Selections for the Leadership Institute were made from all 366 African American superintendents in the United States, which comprise less than 3% of the 13,500 public school districts in the country. Dr. Murfree is extremely pleased to have been one of the 74 superintendents accepted.
Dr. Murfree, beginning his second year as leader of the Dougherty County system, was selected not only because he would benefit from the experience but, because of his accomplishments and commitment to public education, he will contribute to the quality of discussion and issues brought to light during this event, according to the alliance selection chair.
