Officials celebrate the new station with a ribbon cutting

ALBANY, GA. -- Dougherty County Commission members along with EMS personnel and officials held a ribbon cutting at the new station on Palmyra Road.

For the past 30 years the EMS headquarters was located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Jefferson Street.  The new facility is thousands of square feet larger and provides more space for meetings, individual bedrooms with private restrooms for staff to use during down time, an 8-ambulance garage and more.

Director of Dougherty County EMS Bobby Tripp says the building is a dream come true.  “The taxpayers should be very proud of this facility because they along with county officials made it happen.  This has been a morale booster.  We have so much space for everyone to work out of and it’s just so enjoyable having nice facilities like this.  This is probably the nicest EMS facility in the state of Georgia if not the entire country."

Dr. Charles Gillespie presented the station with a framed emergency medical technician oath similar to the Hippocratic oath.  “The residents should be very happy because this is a brand new facility located right between two hospitals.  This building has been a dream of mine 30 years in the making so to see it complete is a dream come true” says Gillespie.

The new EMS headquarters was fully operational and working as of May 18, 2011.
