ALBANY, GA -- For many teenagers, they're never too young to start thinking about colleges and careers.

Some future Monroe High School students got a little push toward engineering today.

The school teamed up with Proctor and Gamble to host a math and engineering camp for incoming freshman.

The camp wrapped up with college campus visits at Tuskegee University and Auburn University and they got free graphing calculators each valued at about $130 dollars.

Dougherty County school officials say emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math programs are paying dividends throughout the state.

New statewide CRCT results are in. The numbers are particularly good for fifth and eighth grade math students with passing grades up nearly five percent.

“The eighth graders now are taking a lot of algebra, and we've seen those eighth grade scores in our district over the last three years. And i think that the focus we are putting on stem does have an impact and effect on it,” said Dr. Sonia King, , math supervisor in the DCSS curriculum office

Test scores for individual school system aren't available yet. State officials say those won't be available until later this month.
