Many veterans think Americans have forgotten the fallen.

ALBANY, GA -- For FOX 31's Facebook story of the day, fan wanted to know if the true meaning of memorial day is still being observed as it should.

Memorial Day was conceived as a holiday to remember those who died in war but some people think that the meaning of the day is as forgotten as the veterans who died long ago.

They said it's been replaced by a day at the beach or a family  bar-b-que.

G.C. Croft, a World War II veteran who served in the merchant marines, is one ho believes people need to remember those who died for the country.

"They forget about all those service men that paid the ultimate price with their lives," said veteran G.C. Croft, "A lot of them came home with missing arms, missing legs and all but all of that today is the reason we are enjoying our freedom."

G.C. Croft said people can support the troops by purchasing a poppy from the American Legion or saying thank you to those who serve.
