LaToyia Jackson teaches English at Westover High School
ALBANY, GA. -- LaToyia Jackson’s classroom is full of laughter. Jackson says her long time love of English, words, and reading keeps her passionate about the subject. She says her teaching style combines education and entertainment because she says students will retain the information better.
“I will find a way to connect with my students and make it relevant. It may be music, it may be the arts, it may be playing a particular sport so then I’ll say lets write about it! Let’s read something about that sport and if I feel like if I can get your interest sparked in some area, then we can move on from there. I can continue to build your level of reading if I can find something to connect you to, and then I can continue to build your level of reading and hopefully open you up to other kinds of ideas” says Jackson.
Her students say they love her creativity and they see her as not just an educator, but a leader, role model, and counselor.
Jackson says all of her energy and creativity all boil down to one objective, “I want to make sure that they're disciplined and they're learning because the bottom line is that they have to earn their high school diploma” says Jackson.
