GEORGIA -- Utility crews continued to work to restore power to thousands of Georgians who lost their electricity, and communities were trying to recover from the storms that killed six people around the state and caused heavy damage.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens offered an initial damage of estimate of $32 million. His office said Wednesday the figure, which does not include uninsured losses, will be updated on Thursday.

Georgia Power and Georgia EMC crews, operating under clear skies Wednesday were busy restoring power to thousands of people still without it.

Both organizations said they expect to have all customers back on line by Wednesday night. The storm hit communities all over the state, with much of its force in the Atlanta area.
