PELHAM, GA -- Several state law enforcement agencies will converge on Southwest Georgia on Monday to launch a special investigation into the death of a 17-year-old jail inmate.
Fabian Avery, III of Atlanta died early Friday morning while being held in isolation at the Pelham Pre-Release Center.
WAGA FOX 5 in Atlanta is reporting that Avery's family said he complained about being sick, but didn't get the treatment he needed. The teen's father said just weeks ago his son was in perfect health.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said Avery was recently sentenced on convictions of multiple charges, including aggravated assault and armed robbery.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that an autopsy will be performed on Monday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is overseeing the investigation.
