Lee Co. art show and competition kicks off the "Under the Oaks Art Fest" weekend

LEE COUNTY, GA -- They may not be Atlanta, but that doesn’t mean Lee County can’t have a local art show like they do in the big city.

“We're not Atlanta but we want to bring a little different culture around here,” says Lisa Davis with the Lee County Chamber of Commerce.

Work by local artists and photographers will be on display through Saturday at the T. Page Tharp Governmental Building in Leesburg and is available to purchase.

“You never know the talent that's here; it's amazing what we have around here. I think people find it quite interesting. You just don't expect it and we have some really talented folks in the area,” says Davis.

Thursday night, the artwork was judged: Janice Rentz won first place for Art and Doug Wolfe won first place for Photography.

The art show tonight is a kick off to this weekend’s “Under the Oaks” Art Fest. On Saturday, they will have local arts and crafts vendors, crafts for kids as well as food and entertainment. Punch cards for the kids participating in the craft tables costs $3.

A sidewalk chalk art contest will also be held on Saturday. Those interested in participating in the contest should call the Lee County Chamber. There is a $25 application fee to hold reservations, which will be refunded on Saturday.

“Under the Oaks” also features a 5K and one-mile run beginning at 7:45 a.m.
